A holistic approach to comprehensive IT solutions for healthcare.

Background

Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) is a not-for-profit community health system dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of the people of Northeast Georgia. NGHS is anchored by Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s five hospital campuses – NGMC Gainesville, NGMC Braselton, NGMC Barrow, NGMC Habersham, and NGMC Lumpkin – with a total of more than 950 beds and more than 1,300 medical staff members representing more than 60 specialties.

Challenge

Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) set out with a vision: to become a cloud-first healthcare organization. Their Epic® Electronic Health Record (EHR) environment, which supported thousands of clinicians and staff daily, was central to this transformation. Running Epic on-premises presented challenges in scalability, performance, resilience, and cost. NGHS needed to migrate its Epic workload to the cloud seamlessly, securely, and future-proof.

We have become one of the first healthcare systems in Georgia to migrate our entire Epic workload to AWS, and we’re already seeing significant improvements including Epic performing 20% faster and significantly faster login times. By modernizing our IT environment, we’ve created a more resilient, reliable, and cost-effective foundation that enables continued innovation and
strengthens our commitment to being a cloud-first organization. A special thank you to Optimum Healthcare IT and AWS for supporting us on this journey.

As a part of its cloud journey, NGHS and Optimum Healthcare IT chose to work with the public cloud vendor Amazon Web Service (AWS).
