Optimum Healthcare IT, a Best in KLAS healthcare IT staffing and consulting services company, announced that California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has become the seventh higher education institution in the Optimum CareerPath™ program. The new partnership with CSUDH will allow Optimum Healthcare IT to better serve our California and Los Angeles clients, and create a new pathway to employment for CSUDH graduates. Since 2021, Optimum CareerPath has provided career pathways into healthcare to 149 graduated apprentices, of whom 42 percent are women and 67 percent are underserved minorities.
The Optimum CareerPath program aims to help healthcare providers, payers, life sciences, and software organizations bridge the skills gap through innovative sourcing and advanced training curriculums that provide affordable, high-performing, and diverse talent. As one of the most ethnically and socioeconomically diverse campuses in the CSU system, CSUDH shares Optimum’s mission of launching successful careers for underserved populations. Additionally, CSUDH serves more first-generation college students than any other campus in the CSU system, with 47.5 percent of stuents being the first in their family to go to college. By joining the Optimum CareerPath Partner Program, CSUDH students will have new opportunities for paid post-graduate training, and healthcare employers will have access to a new pipeline of skilled and diverse talent.
Participants who enter the Optimum CareerPath program will undergo an extensive training program consisting of two phases. The first phase is a Digital Health Certification Program, developed in partnership with the College of Healthcare Information Executives (CHIME), where a solid healthcare and IT knowledge foundation is formed. Upon completing phase one, students move into phase two for application-specific technical tracks, focusing on specific IT skills and platforms used by healthcare organizations. After training, graduates are assigned to a project to gain practical industry experience and start a rewarding career in Healthcare IT while receiving mentorship from Optimum staff throughout their assignment.
CSUDH’s diverse, talented graduates contribute enormously to Southern California’s industries and communities, said J. Kim McNutt, dean of the College of International and Extended Education. We welcome this partnership and the expanded opportunities for our students and alumni to take their first steps into rewarding careers.
Hospital organizations face increasing demand for technology investment. While the technology is available, the IT people with the skills to support these initiatives are hard to find. According to McKinsey, the best talent is hired quickly, and new talent is risky, with 60 percent of employers saying entry-level employees aren’t prepared to perform at the job. The Optimum CareerPath program provides an alternative to the traditional staffing model. Through university partnerships, we recruit and train college graduates with the hard and soft skills required for rewarding careers in healthcare IT bringing our clients a diverse, entry-level skillset that’s ready for day one.
Addressing our client’s staffing needs and creating pathways to rewarding healthcare technology careers is the mission of the Optimum CareerPath program, said Jason Jarrett, CEO of Optimum Healthcare IT. Since the launch of the CareerPath, we have graduated 149 apprentices. With the addition of CSUDH graduates, we can better serve clients, especially in California, with high-quality, entry-level talent. I am excited to welcome CSUDH to the program.
