Jacksonville Beach, FL – Optimum Healthcare IT announced that Dr. Sheryl Bushman has joined the organization as CMIO. A Board Certified OB/GYN physician, Dr. Bushman transitioned to medical informatics in 2005. During her tenure in the field of medical informatics, Dr. Bushman has transformed the delivery of healthcare; implementing the Epic System EHR in 15 hospitals and hundreds of ambulatory practices across six states. Her inpatient implementation experience includes Academic Medical Centers, large multi-state health systems and large and small community hospitals. Her ambulatory experience includes health system integrated (employed) physician practices as well as non-integrated (voluntary) physician practices in almost every specialty and subspecialty.
Dr. Bushman holds 7 Epic certifications: orders, medication orders, order transmittal, decision support, physician builder, reporting workbench and radar (dashboards). In addition to her in-depth knowledge of Epic and the interdependencies within, Dr. Bushman has a superb grasp of ambulatory, hospital and hospital outpatient operations. This combination yields synergy in identifying effective, optimal workflows to answer difficult operational challenges. She has recently led efforts to upgrade Epic for Meaningful Use Stage 2 and ICD-10.
In addition to practicing obstetrics and gynecology as an independent private practitioner from 1989 through 2006, Dr. Bushman has held the following roles: OBG residency program director, Surgery Department Chair, Director of Medical Education and Vice President for Medical Affairs. Dr. Bushman has been active, nationally serving as President of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Chair of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, and board member of DOCare. She holds memberships with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the American Medical Informatics Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. Her passion is medical mission work.
