Optimum Healthcare IT, a Best in KLAS healthcare IT staffing and consulting services company, announced that Red Lake Nation College (RLNC) has become the fifth higher education institution in the Optimum CareerPath™ program. As the first apprenticeship program focused on Healthcare IT in the United States, the CareerPath program has experienced immense demand over the last 18-months. In 2021, the program graduated 95 students, providing career pathways for graduates into healthcare.
Participants who enter the Optimum CareerPath program will go through an extensive training program that consists of two phases. The first phase is a Digital Health Certification Program, developed in partnership with the College of Healthcare Information Executives (CHIME), where a solid foundation of healthcare and healthcare IT knowledge is formed. Upon completing phase one, students move into phase two for application-specific technical tracks, focusing on specific IT skills and platforms used by healthcare organizations. After training, graduates are assigned to a project to gain practical industry experience and start a rewarding career in Healthcare IT while receiving mentorship from Optimum staff throughout their assignment.

In the past, the main hiring challenge in the Healthcare IT industry was a skills gap that caused organizations to struggle to fill positions. Over the past 12-months, however, a new challenge has emerged; Hiring in general. With the number of employees leaving for more flexibility, advancement, or salary, the need for diverse, entry-level talent has never been higher. The Optimum CareerPath program provides an alternative to the traditional staffing model that increases diversity and access to the local workforce.
The partnership with RLNC will bolster Optimum CareerPath’s mission to create pathways to rewarding healthcare technology careers for underrepresented groups while providing an untapped source of talent to Optimum’s health plan, provider, and technology clients and provide job opportunities within local tribal communities.
